i woke up this morning to a true winter wonderland.
i live between baltimore and washington dc and we are having our first snow storm in a couple of years.
it really is so beautiful and quiet outside.
Sleigh bells ring
are you listening
in the lane
snow is glistening
A beautiful sight
we're happy tonight
walking in a winter wonderland
Gone away is the bluebird
here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song
as we go along
walking in a winter wonderland
In the meadow we can build a snowman
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married?
we'll say: No man
But you can do the job
when you're in town
Later on
we'll conspire
as we dream by the fire
To face unafraid
the plans that we've made
walking in a winter wonderland
In the meadow we can build a snowman
and pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman
until the alligators knock him down
When it snows
ain't it thrilling
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play
the Eskimo way
walking in a winter wonderland
Walking in a winter wonderland
walking in a winter wonderland
But, who the heck is Parson Brown???????

Hi Orbiting: It is so beautiful outside. I don't remember the last time I've seen such a picture perfect snowstorm.
It's even more beautiful that I don't have to travel on Rt. 695 today or Rt 495, or Rt 95. Heck, I'm just glad I don't have to go out today at all. Not even for TP, Bread, or Milk.

I woke up this morning to a true Winter Wonderland. I live between Baltimore and Washington DC and we are having our first snow storm in a couple of years. It really is so beautiful and quiet outside. I believe day's like this are God's way of telling everybody to slow down and take it easy.
The best part of the day so far was taking my puppy outside in the snow for the first time. She LOVED it. To see a living creature enjoy something as simple as snow really warmed my heart. I don't think I'll ever forget that.
Anyway, we are expecting 6-10 inches in the Baltimore area. I got a good 4 1/2 inches on the ground already. I just hope this feeling stays with me while I'm shovelling out my car.
Anybody else have any thoughts on today's snowfall in the Northeast?
just as people have different personalities, i believe that individual congregations also had their own personality.. the hall i went to while growing up, was just awful.
the po of the hall was known in the entire area, and was just a tyrant.
there were no grey areas.
I think one of the characters was a "Sister Beagle." the sister always getting into every one's business
I remember Sister Beagle. "APOSTATES!!!!" The woman who played her on the video had that type of character down to a tee. I think every KH had a Sr Beagle.
.
i was reading a post that reminded me of the songs that were popular but was wrong to listen to for various reasons.. we all remember puff the magic dragon being about drugs, which i hear was just a rumour.. another i remember was let it be by the beatles, which was " catholic based about mary the mother of jesus" when apparently it was written about paul mccartney's own mother.
shows what they know.. which songs do you remember that were "bad" that we were not supposed to listen to?
I remember at one district assembly in the '70's, some idiot gave a talk and mentioned that the song "Undercover Angel" (remember that pop hit from the 70's?) was a bad song because it was about having sex with angels.
Also, anything DISCO was strictly forbidden. Anything!!!
10 things men won't say
let's watch lifetime!
sex is overrated.
there have been a couple of postings lately about long assemblies.. does anyone remember these, or maybe even attended them?.
i was just a young child in the early 70's and something tells me i remember a long assembly, but don't remember if it was 8 days.. how long were they exactly, and what times.
what the hell did they talk about???.
I found this link that has the programs for every year from the International Assembly in 1969 to the present.
I thought this very interesting. I remember being at Yankee Stadium in '69 as a kid during the assembly.
Here's the link. http://www.geocities.com/jrista/master.htm
i guess that everone knows that i will post a pic of a steam locomotive if the sightest opportunity presents itself.
sometimes i do it if a thread is getting heated, there's something about a pic of a steam engine that makes people smile, so it does often defuse a situation.. here's a bit of history:.
back in the early 60's, it was decided by the british railways management, that all of it's steam powered units would be replaced by the cheaper, cleaner diesel or electric locos.
Englishman:
Do you have Microsoft Train Simulator? I bought it about a year ago and I find it very facinating. Most people will never have a chance to operate a real loco in their life, so I found this is the next best thing.
There are tons and tons of additional loco's, passanger cars, freight cars, routes, steam loco's ect that could be downloaded for free from any number of train-sim enthusiasts sites. I have to admit the eye candy in the program is pretty good too.
Just curious if you ever tried that sim.

Pat Robertson redeems pancakes from sugary sins
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Condemning the evils of ``syrup-drenched hotcakes,'' television evangelist Pat Robertson is pitching his own ``Age-Defying Protein Pancake'' to the millions who watch him daily on ``The 700 Club.''
The preacher's pancake ``fights disease, protects your heart and tastes great!'' according to the Internet site of the Christian Broadcasting Network, which Robertson founded and heads.
Robertson, 72, cooked up a stack of the pancakes during ``The 700 Club'' broadcast Wednesday. Within 48 hours, 38,000 people had called for the recipe or had downloaded it off the Web site.
The high-protein flapjacks are credited by Robertson with helping to protect against breast, uterine and prostate cancer, and with fighting the buildup of plaque in blood vessels.
Robertson said Friday that he devised the recipe himself.
``My mother taught me to cook when I was a little boy, and I've been relatively good at it,'' he said.
The griddle cake is the third nutritional promotion by Robertson, who also extols ``Pat's Age-Defying Shake'' and ``Pat's Age-Defying Antioxidants.''
None of the promotions sells a product. Instead, Robertson provides recipes with ingredients, such as soy flour and plain yogurt, that are available in health-food stores and supermarkets. He also identifies specific vitamins and minerals that help protect against disease.
Blending shakes and pushing pancakes wouldn't seem to fit Robertson's profile as a multimillionaire businessman, a former presidential candidate and founder of Regent University in Virginia Beach.
But he said he began studying the connection between nutrition, aging and health when he turned 60 and noticed his own diminishing muscle tone and mass. He gradually devised a personal health regimen involving diet and exercise -- he said Friday that he bench-presses up to 235 pounds -- and has promoted those habits for several years.
Viewers apparently take his advice to heart. According to CBN, there have been 575,000 requests for and downloads of Robertson's epistle on antioxidants since it became available in October 2001, and nearly a half-million inquiries about the shake recipe since it was unveiled in August of that year.
But flapjacks? Why target this breakfast staple when a legion of soft drinks, snacks and fast foods bear far more dietary culpability?
``I'm not attacking pancakes,'' Robertson said. Rather, he rejects as unhealthy all breakfasts, including most baked goods and manufactured cereals, that are too sweet and low in protein.
``I am just an absolute fanatic against white flour in any form,'' he said. ``The second thing is sugar. Sugar is an absolute killer.''
Robertson chuckled when asked whether ``age-defying'' was an extraordinary claim for his recipes.
``We obviously continue to age,'' he acknowledged, adding, ``You don't have to wear out at 60.''
